Event - Year 6 at Cadbury World

16 October 2014

On October 16th Year 6 visited Cadbury World to learn about how they Mayans discovered the cocoa bean and created chocolate.

The children learnt about the way of life in the Mayan times and how they used cocoa beans not only to make chocolate but as money also. In Mayan times two beans bought a pumpkin, 10 beans bought you a rabbit and 100 bought you a slave!

Year 6 studied the Mayan calendar and learnt about its uses, such as how the calendar worked based on the position of the sun and compared it with the cycles of the moon and the changes of the seasons. It finally counts through the days and months.

We were lucky enough to visit the Cadbury shop and learn about how our favourite chocolates are created. We learnt a lot throughout the day and even visited the 4D cinema!

We received a talk based on the Mayans and their civilisation. The children wore head dresses and learnt lots about the Mayan way of life.
