Event - Mensa Programme
5 March 2012
The Mensa programme is a pupil-led initiative using materials produced by Mensa.
In the current programme, children from Years 1 to 6 have been learning about how things move through the air. They have looked at bird flight, the flight of planes but also how things fly, and why some birds do not fly.
All the work for the children's study has been done in their own time with weekly meetings to monitor how they are doing and give support. Tasks completed at home have included research work and building models to test their own theories.
The whole initiative has culminated with the children completing projects on flight, again in their own time. There has been minimal teacher involvement in the children's work to encourage their independence as it is the thought process that we are trying to encourage, rather than a slick presentation.
These were to be presented on 5th March 2012, with the children who successfully completed the programme being awarded Mensa lapel badges and certificates.
The presentations were very well planned. |
The children even made models! |

Everyone worked hard together. |
Everyone learned lots of exciting facts. |
